Mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, and we all make them. It's important to reflect on them and identify the lessons we can learn from them. One such mistake that I recently made was misunderstanding the differences between automation, AI, and machine learning. I became tangled up when trying to convey my idea and got defensive because I was frustrated with myself for not knowing more of the technical jargon and vocabulary.
Reflection
Upon reflecting on this mistake, I realized that I was focusing too much on displaying and proving my knowledge and perspective on the topic. As a result, I was missing opportunities to listen and learn from others.
Pivot to Practice
To pivot from this mistake, I made a conscious effort to notice when I became defensive and to pause. Instead of getting defensive, I went back into my curious mindset and asked questions such as "Could you say more about that?" or "How do you see the pipeline/flow/feedback loop of the technology?"
In This Instance
By doing so, I found that I was able to better understand the topic and learn from others' experiences and perspectives. I also realized that it's okay not to know everything, and that part of learning is being willing to ask questions and listen to others.
In conclusion, making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process, and it's important to reflect on them and identify the lessons we can learn from them. In my case, I learned that focusing too much on displaying my knowledge and perspective can lead to missed opportunities for learning from others. To pivot from this mistake, I made a conscious effort to be more curious and ask questions, and in doing so, I was able to better understand the topic and learn from others.
